Whats in store?

Lately I've been pretty lost.
Not sure what to do, where to go, who to talk to.
All of that.
I am not particularly happy at the moment

I want to get out of here as fast as possible.
To where, I have no clue.
I hate this.
I wish I knew what I was good at.
I wish I knew what you wanted from me.
Do you want anything at all?
I don't think so.
Where is everything going.
I don't want you to leave without me.

I hate work. You work, work, work
work, for what?

"we're always waiting
what are we waiting for
we've got all we need right here
but somethings telling us we need more

we want all that stuff
all that stuff that costs too much

why are we working?
and what are we working for?

we want all that stuff
all that stuff that costs too much
we feel sad and such
are we owned by our own stuff?

we want all that stuff
all that stuff that costs too much
we feel sad and such
are we owned by our own stuff?

we don't want our boring jobs
to keep us paying bills for ever
so what are we waiting for?"-Yacht

This is part of what is on my nerves.
I want to figure out life.
I want to see things
feel things
real things.
I want to travel.
I want to help people,
understand people,
show people, show myself
teach people, help them grow.

I want to know how to make things possible.

NYC

(a lot smaller than expected!)

So my mad... Never got to write about my New York City experience.
I will make it quick and brief.

Defiantly a great place to go see.
So many neat diverse places to shop, eat, browse, and just check out.
Yes, it is expensive... at places. BUT you can totally avoid those places, and make due with other great places.

Sweet places we went:
MOMA - The Modern Art museum in NYC. SO HUGE. like 8 stories? Its a whole day event so if you plan on going, plan on making a day of it!

:::metal chair:::

:::peoples height w/ name:::

Central Park -
Probably my favorite part of NYC. Its the biggest park ever. For all you Traverse Citians, the Open Space is probably... 1/20th of the size of Central Park. I may even be underestimating it. There is soo much going on, but everyone seems friendly, and everyones going nice constructive things. Like there was this womens' kick boxing practice? going on.
Then 50 feet away there was a group of people with their dogs just running around playing.
Then in another part there were people playing frisbee. EXTREEM frisbee. They were standing sooo far from each other and throwing it directly to the other person.
::ripped! haha:::
All around just a happy pleasant place.
We also went there at night and walked around, stumbled upon a drum circle... a castle, and some big rock... haha
:::Castle::

The main inspiration for the trip... Battles first 2009 and only US show, also playing new material. Chk Chk Chk, Flying Lotus, and Pivot. What a great show, weird venue, but cool. My camera screen shattered on the way to the show... :( devastating... but I played blind photographer anyways.
:::Battles:::

:::Chk Chk Chk / !!!:::

:::Flying Lotus:::

AMAZING restaurants, and I didn't find them too pricey...
Places we ate at:
Soy and Sake - OMG... best vegetarian chinese food EVER. Sometimes I think about buying a ticket out there, just so I can eat there. Sesame chicken, and teriyaki chicken.. Mmmm!!
:::this little guy was in the huge and most beautiful fish tank i've ever seen!:::
Atlas Cafe - Mmmm taste cookies, soo good. good ravioli as well
Vinny's Pizza - In Brooklyn, wildest creations. I had the Hamburger helper? or maybe the Mac attack? It was great none the less.
Ate at 2 ice cream places, both were great. Can't remember the names to.
Super yummy french roast at this really fancy place. mm soo good. can't recall the name.
Ate at this hole in the wall falafel shop, 2 falafel and a soda for $5. sooo good and soo cheap!
Stricktly Roots, this raw food place with gingerbread. not like gingerbread gingerbread.. like banana break but ginger...? it was soo tasty!
Oh boy, where else? Lance help me out if i forgot anything.

..:::Goodbye NYC:::..

Day tripping at Lolla

Its been a while since i've written in here so I suppose
I'll make it snappy just to catch up quickly..
After Pitchfork, the next big thing for me was Lollapalooza, in Chicago.

This is my 3rd time going, and it' always a fun time. This year, as well as last year, I went with
Leah. A LOT of people we knew were going this year (Claire, Amy, Liz, Luke, Sam, Derek, Kelly, Lauren, Ali, Geoff, Luke.. maaannnnyy more ) We didn't seem to run int
o people that much but its almost easier so there are less conflicts. So anyways...

Day 1: Work up ate my YUMMY left over french toas
t i got the night before at the Pick Me Up Cafe.. sooo good... I ate there alone... ha it was sad... and I got hit on by these weird dudes on
the walk there, made me a little skeptical and I wanted to turn around, but I kept on walking...
but back to day one... So it rained ALL day.... I had an unbrella, but i figured i might as well get a little wet and use it later... well I just shouldnt ave brought it at all, never used it once...
I was soaking the entire day.. Wasnt dry until 10 p.m....

I started the day flying solo because leah was STILL in Wisconsin with her boi! But I got to enjoy Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes in the mean while. Who both sounded incrediable. They were still able make goosebumps jump under my skin.

Bon Iver

Fleet Foxes
At the end of Bon Iver's set, I had somehow ran into Liz, Claire and all those peeps, so I was hanging out with them, and then Leah had contacted me FINALLY!! So i asked the security guard if i could hop over the fence, but all he said was "Turn around" so i was like uuhhhh... nooo... he wanted to pick me up and put me over the gate, but I was hesitant because i was wearing a skirt.. but it was the only way out so I obeyed his request, and i turned around. 1..2...3.. WOOO i flew into the air. He nearly launched me! It was great I'd have to say... best way out. But once over the gait, I was on my way to accompany Leah. SHe was inside waiting where Of Montreal was going to preform in about an hour, I ran over to the stage they were a
ssigned to, and I amazingly weaseled my way through the crowd and got up in front right next to leah. It was great.

Of Montreal begins. Amazing as usual. They are one of my favorite bands to see live ever. I liked seeing them at a venue better, because they had a lot more props, and it was just a lot more insane, but it was still awesome.

Their set was coming to an end and some lucky bastard got Kevin Barnes's guitar! Kevin just pointed at some kid and told the security guards to give it to them. Talk about lucky! They finished their set with some wild "beasts" surfing on the crowd on an inflatable raft, and then some stage craft dude jumped into the crowd. Leah was lucky enough to get a set list.. that had someone's footprint imprinted on. sooo jealous. I had asked one of Of Montreal's crew members to get me a set list so he did but he handed it to the bitch next to me gkjdflgkj :( but thats okay.. Next time!

After that we decided to get some grub. Lollapalooza every year has this stand that has awesome gyro's It was actually the first time I had ever has one was the year before this. Unfortunately they were out and only had beef or something, so I decided to get TEMPTATION ICE CREAM! The best ice cream ever! There was this guy working the stand who totally had a crush on me, but it was probably just a joke. He was really funny, I'd go there everyday and he'd always have something wild to say, making me laugh of blush, or something. He said he will be waiting there next year, so we'll see! haha

But off in the distance I heard Band of Horses playing "Funeral" so i stopped everything i was doing and followed each note to their stage. I thought i was going to miss them due to conflict in the schedule, but turns out i got to hear their last 2 songs.

After the foot sank into our bellies, we hearded to Kid Cudi and he finished off our night.

Day 2: Being very hyped to see Animal Collective DJ set, we got going early, and waited for a good 2 hours for their set so Leah and I could be up in front. In the means time we saw:
Moneypenny, which was very entertaining. It was 2 girl DJ's we had 4 lady dancers. They sort of just did their own thing, but one girl started breakdancing. She was okay, I felt I could have done better, but w/e she was the one on stage.
After that there were a few other people that weren't very impressive, so I clearly do not remember their names..
Then it was time for Animal Collective's DJ set. It was very confusing because we weren't certain if they had started or not. We just thought it was the in between music playing.. so no one was really getting pumped up. It was just a weird thing. They did have this guy come out on stage and start dancing though which was pretty cool. He was a complete hippy and he danced and danced and danced. He probably had to be rushed to the ER afterwards because it was about 90+ degrees and very humid..
After that we were pretty exhausted and disappointed, so we just wandered around and laid down until TV on the Radio was about to play and we headed on up towards the front.
They were awesome!
I never knew what the band mates had looked like so when I saw them I was a bit surprised. I am always surprised by the appearance of a musical artist. If I don't know what they look like I get this image in my head based off of their voice, and I am always completely wrong. But regardless of their appearance or any of those meaningless details, they sounded great, and I'm really glad I got to see them, and would like to see them again, but more 1 on 1.
After that, then came... the one and only.... Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Karen O always puts on a great show.. Of course she couldnt do it without Nick Zinner, their Guitarist / Keyboardist, and the drummer Brian Chase. Ive loved the Yeah Yeah Yeahs since I was about 12? Ever since their Maps song made it big on MTV haha. My obsession for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, started out then, but then faded, I had lost their downloaded music when our computer crashed.. but was reunited when I had bought their CD maybe 4 years later? The obsession started again, faded out, and came again. I will always love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and I will see them every chance I get. Her outfits are always worth seeing.

Moving on now..

Day 3:

Bat for Lashes, Dan Deacon, Passion Pit, Boys Noize, and mstrkrft.

Never really listened to Bat for Lashes before this, but after seeing them I start, they are quite different from most bands I've heard, and I like their style

Dan Deacon. One of the craziest crowds I've been in.. People crowd surfing left and right. Dan Deacon constructing the crowd. It was great. They had like 93843909re people on stage.

Passion Pit. Never listened to them much before but they were awesome! We ran into our LA friend that we saw like everywhere. The crowd was pretty rowdy, leah got her head rammed into the railing ... but its okay it pissed her off so much that we left their set early, and she plowed our way to the front for boys noize, and after that was mstrkrft.

ok im sock of writting. boys noizes n mstrkrft = AWESOME

My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion

July is here and its been so far the illustrious segment of my summer so far.

I started out the very 1st of the month by getting a tattoo.

It's a quarter inch thick outline of a triangle on the inside of my left foot.

Being a bit anxious and impulsive, I scheduled an appointment.

I call and there's an opening for a couple days later.

Although impulsive and not 100% certain what I was going to get,

I felt very zealous about doing this, and had to do it before I had a chance to over think it.

Immediately drawn to this art I had wanted a tattoo once I discovered its existence.

I was determined to get one right when I turned 18. Clearly my parents would NOT allow it.

I had always really wanted a triangle tattoo of some sort. At first it was mostly because I had learned in my Tech Ed. class way back in 7th grade that a Triangle was the strongest shape/structure. I had always thought I was a fairly strong/sovereign person, so I thought it

suited me. So my 18th birthday was in the near so I started pending ideas of what I wanted, never really thinking of anything else besides a triangle or this drawing of a hand I had created my senior year in art class.

So a year and a half later, I just get an impulsive desire to get a tattoo. I want a tattoo. I am going to get one I thought to myself.

So that’s when I called and set up the appointment.

Then I start sketching ideas for about 30 minutes on a post-it note.

There we go. I had it. That was that. That was it.

The next day that thing would be sketched on me. Premaritally.

There are other little tidbits that had formed through the years on why I had wanted a triangle.

They may sound silly but they mean something to me and also reminds me of other segments in my life. Such being: In art compositions hold up more dominantly in groups of 3, and a few other art related facts that will probably stick in my head for the rest of my life. Also I am just drawn to the whole pattern of anything with the shape in it. It has always appealed to me ever since my wee stages of life. When I was little all you would catch me drawing were patterns of triangles, I even use to right my name in all triangles when I was younger haha.

Also I just like how it looks, I mean if I like the appearance of something, I am pretty sure it will appeal to me for the rest of my life. As if i were to get a tattoo of something that had a strong willed meaning behind it, my thoughts may change, resulting in a not so passionate liking for it.

All right, moving on to my next big venture in life...

About a week later, 7.6.09, I go skydiving. First time ever being in a plane, I jump out.

So Lance had always pushed the idea on me, saying we should go skydiving.

I sort of was just like yeah... sounds great but I doubt it's really going to happen.

I always said it'd rather blow the money on something... more worthwhile? But hell, once you soar through the sky at 120 mph what's more worthwhile?

So one day, one bad day for Lance at work, obviously during Cherry Fest; the busiest time of year for most businesses... He texts me and says "Hey want to go sky diving tomorrow?" and I'm just like "uhh.... sure...?...!?" so he tells me to go look it up; that some place does cherry fest jumps, so I'm like well okay... So I go and Google it and get the number. Call, but the only time we were both free was booked... So whatever, we don't have to do a cherry fest jump, so I called and set it up for 1:00 on Thursday. Sort of forgetting about the fact that I was going to be jumping out of a plane..

We got talking to Rachel Lipscomb about it the day before and she was all "Man that’s awesome! I want to sky dive, what the hell that’s awesome!" and we're like well you can probably! We will call in the a.m. and see if it’s cool. So Lance and I anxiously fall asleep. For me it was sort of like falling asleep Christmas Eve night, when you're still young and believe in Santa clause, and can't wait to awake and see what he brought you in the morning.

But once I was out, I was out.

Wake up around 11. First thing I do, and I mean first thing. Still groggy, I call the place to see if they can add another person. 2 thumbs up. Lance calls Rachel. "Hey Rachel, looks like you'll be jumping out of a plane today!" (Something along those lines, Lance correct me if I am wrong..)

So yep, we wake up, go to Oryana and have us a nice breakfast.

We drive out there, all they way to Harbor Spring, MI. Around an hour away.

It was a beautiful say, the sun was shinning, it was warm, nothing could go wrong.

I kept thinking, this isn’t real, and kept forgetting the fact that I would be jumping out of a plane!

Random burst of awareness would spark in my mind. Oh wow I going to be falling from the sky... wow... WILD! AHH!! and a quick flow of what felt like lava would rush through my veins.

We get there, it felt a little weird at first, wasn't sure if that’s were we were suppose to be... in the middle of a field..? But clearly it was.

We waited around for quite some time, waited for the instructions... Never really told what we were suppose to do, but only moments before strapping into this fabric contraption that will save our lives, and slowly flow your way to safety, but only after the quick plunge to the earths surface, sucking you in, with its jaws ajar.

We get strapped in, and then we're waiting in the van, which soon arrives to the airport. There we would no longer be connected to the world, and the next time we would be... would be afte drifting 2 miles straight down towards solid ground.

This was the scariest part for me. Taking off in the plane. Having never been on a plane before... and especially because it was an old tiny, non-commercial plane... It was a little rickety at first. After being airborne for a few moments I realized this was it. No backing out. Next time I’d see solid ground would be after JUMPING OUT OF A PLANE!!!

The higher the plane went the calmer I became.. But still shock waves of consciousness would enter my brain and again a strike of molten lava would soar through my blood like lightning.

As we were gaining distance from earth, the professional, yet comedic guys, that would be strapped to my back were making joke about throwing my out of the plane and then flying after me, catch me and then attach me and then float me down to safety. Scary thought...

But in reality I was attached soon to a guy, and then out of nowhere the door was open!

I guess I screeched a little Lance said.. Then the BOOM! I was falling... falling... FALLING! I was soaring through the clouds. Not to sure which way I was falling... headfirst? Sideways? No idea... the clouds were so cloudy... It was a little hard to breath for me, possibly from just being... well... I have no words to describe the feelings I felt. But then BOOM! No longer was I in the clouds. I could see the ground. Then poof! The parachute was pulled, there was a quick jerk, and we were floating down like feathers. He let me take control of the chute, and had me pull one of the straps down. No idea what it would do. Leading us cork screwing towards the ground. Then he told me to lift both arms up and then bring them down. It felt like I was on the down slope of a roller coaster for a moment, and then we drifted downward again.

The landing was smooth, I just picked up my feet and then he did everything else.

I made it. I was still alive. It was amazing.

I ran to Rachel who was anxiously waiting her turn to jump since there were only 4 people allowed in the plane at a time.

I was speechless I didn't know what to say. It was great! What a feeling...

But yeah then Lance and his guy came falling shortly after me. Their landing wasn’t quite as smooth, the fell over a little haha, but its common.

Then Lance and I waited for Rachel to jump and she as well was speechless.

Right after we took out exhausted dreary bodies to the car and headed home.

After that we had hip-hop, and house dance class. So drained we just sort of messed around and it was fun.

Most recently I was just in Chicago 7.16.09 - 7.20.09 for Pitchfork Music festival. It was everything I could have asked for and more. The trip to Chicago was great. It was one of the first times I got to go out and enjoy the cities fine cuisine, and conquer their public transit.

At first I was suppose to go with Leah, but the whole ride situation got all scrambled, so I went down there with Lance, Clayton, and Zach, and Lance and I stayed at Steph Hall / Zack Olsen / Andrew Rosinski's place and it was great!

Lance and I and went out and ate at this amazing place called the Chicago Diner. A vegetarian / vegan eatery. SOO GOOD! I bought their recipe book, that I was convinced Lance was lying about... haha. We also are at the Pick Me Up cafe, which was also amazzzzzing! We got breakfast there the day we left which was probably why we were late and missed our train ride at 2:35 and had to wait till 5 for the next train haha.

Back to the main focus. Pitchfork.

Day 1: we just saw Tortoise, which was really amazing. We wanted to see Built to spill as well but they played hours later and didn’t really want to wait... but that was that day, but it was still great!!

Day 2: The day my camera broke.... for no reason. Fuck you Canon. You're a big conspiracy. You are no better then Coke. A well-known name, only due to advertising. Without that, you’d be nothing and I will no longer buy your product. Thank you knowledgeable Camera Shop man. Anyhoo.

Cymbals Eat Guitars, we arrive late for their set but I get to catch the last few songs. They were great. Didn't get to see them play "And the Hazy Sea" but that’s okay, I still love em'. Plants and Animals. Never heard any of their music before this, but I enjoyed it, then Leah and I wondered a little bit. Met up with Lance to see Bowerbirds. Everything I wanted / expected. Beautiful. Their music, and the singers. The boy was solo cute! The girl as well. Their set was everything I wanted to hear. Their songs make me happy and will always remind me of a cute boy. Their lyrics are great, and the sound itself is beautiful and reassuring. Then we wait for Wavves to come on, so we decide to see Ponytail. What an interesting band. Very entertaining, but I don't know if I would listen to their stuff on my own. The girl is wild and just makes strange noises and faces! I got scared however because the crowd was getting rowdy and the gate that I was pressed upon was going to tip over I felt and the security guards had to push it to how it up, so yeah I peaced out of there.

Met back up with Leah. Saw Yeasayer. Leah and I had weaseled our way up the front, as usual. Yeasayer, again was awesome! They played Tightrope, the song off the Dark Was The Night compilation, which is AMAZING! Then led us to Beirut, which we were also front for. Music so beautifully composed. It was great. Oh yeah after Yeasayer, i left poor leah to see Doom for a little bit and then somehow made it back to her before Beirut came out. I ended up getting his set list. It was great, and written on a napkin! ha Love it. After that I met back up with Lance, wondered a bit and watch the Black Lips for a quick minute while they smashed their guitar, and went off and ate another great meal and the Chi Diner, where I witnessed 2 Yeasayer members on a date with 2 fine ladies.

Day 3: The final day :( I ran all over the place for the first part of the day, saw some really amazing screen printed posters, that I really wanted, but cant justify spending $25 on a poster... My day pretty much started at DJ Rupture. He was great, mixed some good shit, and Leah and I danced in the front the whole time. Then we dipped to go watch M83 to then further wait for the climax of the whole fest. The Flaming Lips. M83 was nice, Leah and I moved through the crowd easily at first... then the grains to tight and it became harder... We found some chill people tho and we were like 3rd row.

This was the most amazing show I have ever been to. Hands down. The Flaming Lips are out to please the crowd. And they succeed with flying colors. Literally. Flying Colors. Everywhere. They shot out confetti, had huge balloons floating / bouncing al over the crowd. At least 30 balloons, and at least, literally 50 LBS of confetti shot out. It was amazing. The crowd was great, probably the scariest one i've been in. It was a literal sea of crowd, i felt like a wave splashing around in the summer sky. Leah and I both had to crowd surf our way out. It was the only way out. It was amazing. I remember looking down at the people below me and I watched this dudes face in slow motion as my foot slid across his cheek, then mouth. hahah i felt bad but whatever. I was free and i was determined to get to Lance. There he was at the sound sent, in a prime location. I watched the rest of the show with him, and the finished off the Fest with the most beautiful song, Do You Realize. It was just perfect. Thats when mass pounds of confetti was shot into the air, and everyone was unifited and I feel, ready to die because what we had endured was so great that everyone could have died happy at that given moment.

After they were 100% done, and I was just shocked.. I got the set list with Wayne Coynes notes on them in orange ducktape. AWESOME! I could see that for 950945830485 of $ but I will not!

Okay but yeah i really cant write anymore. I now have arthritis thanks to this entry.

Goodnight.

Kid, how you surprise me now

Wow this is one of the first times I have had some free time to sit down and just relax.
As you may have read in my previous blog I was headed for DEMF and then the Yeah Yeah Yeahs shortly afterwards.

So DEMF was a complete success...
Day One:  Lance and I arrived around 1:00 at the Hart Plaza, where DEMF was taking place. There wasn't anyone special playing that we knew of until later. We wondered around seeing if anyone that was playing would intrigue us, but no one did. It all sounded like the same stereotypical techno, with a repetitive bass and repetitive beat. So we wondered around letting all the wild people there amuse us.

I was waiting for Krazy Baldhead, a member of the Ed Banger Record Lable, that Justice, Sebastian, DJ Mehdi, Busy P, So Me, and many others belong to. He was pretty good. I really enojyed the people before him. The booklet thing said it was "Exchange Bureau" but in my opinion it was just a bunch of
different DJ's and rappers switching on and off. Some of them were awesome!

Day Two: Lance and I decide to just skip out and we go to Ann Ar
bor for the day, and plan to arrive back at DEMF around 7 to see RJD2 and DJ Z-Trip. They day in AA was nice, just wanderd around and went to our favorite store, and ate at Chipotle. Stopped at the Whole Foods on they way back to get some healthy snack food, and arrived back in time to see the guy who played before RJ. RJD2 and Z-Trip were
deffinatly the highlight of my time there. I vaguely remember listening to RJD2 often, but I knew some of his stuff. He had a great attitude and seemed like a really amazing guy. I'd like to hang out with him for a day, or even just talk to him for 10 min. After RJ's set, RJ and Z - Trip did a little due which was awesome, and pretty damn exclusive!

Then Z-Trip, I thought I had head, but then I went to listen to it on my iTunes when I got back and realized I hadn't. You should say he is a DJ similar to Girltalk, but different. Has his own style and I think he is a lot better then GT actually. He really knows what the crowd wants, and he owns the stage.

Day Three: The day we've all been waiting for. Flying lotus, Benga, Afrikan Bambaataa, Busy P, Bassnectar, Benny Benassi. We didnt go until 2:30ish that day, so to kill some time we went and looked at the Heidelberg Project. Its pretty neat, this artist went to these run down houses and made them all crazy and colorful.
